Faith Formation for Youth=

Grades 1 – 5

Children of Corpus Christi in grades 1-5 attend fai= th formation classes on Sunday mornings from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. in St. Ja= mes church hall or from 10:20 –11:35 a.m. at St. Patrick’s School. Classes run from October through A= pril. Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist takes place in Years 1 and 2.=

Grades 6 – 8

The 2009 – 201= 0 middle school program will be based on the EDGE Catho= lic School Ministry program, a part of Lif= eTeen. The program is outlined in the fol= lowing documents:

Home Program

Parents of children = in grades 3 – 5 have the option of teaching their children at home using= the same resources our catechists use in the classroom. Requirements for the home program include attendance at all parent meetings, which take place regularly throughout the year, and completion of chapter review sheets by the childre= n.

Children’s Liturgy of the W= ord

Children grade 2 and= younger are welcome to participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word duri= ng the Sunday 9:00 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception and the 10:30 a.m. Mass = at St. James. After the opening prayer, the priest calls the children into the sanctuary for a blessing. The children are then led to the l= ower lever of the church for special time together focusing on the Gospel readin= gs of the day. It includes praye= rs, songs and other activities linked to the readings.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (CIC)<= /span>

CIC is the process w= herein children who are of the age of reason (7 years old) or older, and who have = not been baptized prepare to celebrate the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. These children meet regularly for approximately nine months and then join our adult candidates for initiation at the Easter Vigil. Instruction is also available for older children who were baptized and need preparation for the celebration of Eucharist.
